A highly-regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to join its Chicago office. This is a hands-on, highly visible role working directly with firm leadership that combines employee relations, talent management, staff leadership, HR administration, and workplace operations. The ideal candidate is approachable, proactive, and highly organized, with the judgment and discretion to handle sensitive employee matters while building strong relationships throughout the organization. The position offers a competitive salary of $100,000–$130,000 depending on experience, plus bonus, along with a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to, medical coverage, a 401(k), paid time off, and a generous hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager:
- Lead the day-to-day HR function, serving as a trusted resource to leadership and employees on workplace policies, employee concerns, performance matters, and other HR-related issues.
- Manage the employee lifecycle from recruiting and hiring through onboarding, development, performance management, engagement, retention, and departures, ensuring a consistent and positive employee experience.
- Oversee recruiting and onboarding efforts for administrative and support positions, including developing job descriptions, sourcing and screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and ensuring new hires receive the necessary training, resources, and information.
- Provide leadership and oversight to support personnel, establishing expectations, managing workloads, addressing performance issues, providing coaching, and identifying opportunities for professional development.
- Manage employee relations and workplace concerns, using sound judgment and discretion when addressing sensitive situations and advising leadership on appropriate next steps.
- Support a positive and collaborative workplace culture through employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, internal communication, events, and other efforts designed to strengthen morale and retention.
- Oversee HR administration and benefits, including maintaining employee records and HRIS information, coordinating benefit changes and enrollments, and ensuring HR processes are handled accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain compliance with applicable employment requirements, keeping current on relevant regulations and assisting leadership with policies, documentation, and employment practices.
- Oversee office and workplace operations, including office services, supplies, vendors, facilities, building management, and other administrative needs to ensure a professional and well-functioning environment.
- Partner with leadership on organizational needs and improvements, identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, staffing, employee experience, and overall operational effectiveness.
